Read eBooks on your eBook Reader

Step 1 - Compatibility Check

IMPORTANT: Check to make sure that your eBook reader supports Booku ebooks...

Booku eBooks can be read on devices that support Adobe DRM-protected ePub ebooks, including the Sony Reader, the Barnes and Noble Nook, Kobo, PocketBook, Cool-er, iRiver, JetBook, BeBook and ECO Reader series of eBook readers.

Please note: The Amazon Kindle DOES NOT support eBooks downloaded from Booku.

Step 2 - Get Adobe ID

Obtain an Adobe Account ID here...

An Adobe ID enables you to authenticate the digital rights of your eBooks.

Step 3 - Get Adobe Digital Editions

Download and install Adobe Digital Editions on your PC or Macintosh...

Adobe Digital Editions is a free application used to read and manage digital rights-protected Adobe eBooks.

Sony Reader users: We recommend using Adobe Digital Editions to download and transfer titles to the Sony Reader, instead of the Sony Reader software included with the device. For information on how to change your file associations to automatically use Adobe Digital Editions instead of the Sony Reader software, follow the instructions here...

Step 4 - Activate Digital Editions

Activate Adobe Digital Editions with your Adobe Account ID with these steps:

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
  2. The 'Setup Assistant' dialog box is displayed.
  3. Click 'Continue'.  The 'Authorize Computer' screen is displayed.
  4. Enter your Adobe ID (email address) and password.
  5. Click 'Activate'. Your computer is activated to your Adobe ID.
  6. Click 'Finish' to close the 'Setup Assistant' dialog box.

Step 5 - Buy an eBook

On your PC or Macintosh, visit Booku and purchase an eBook.  Skip this step if you've already purchased one from Booku.

Step 6 - Download eBook

Navigate to 'My Bookshelf' on the Booku website and download the eBook on your PC or Macintosh.  Adobe Digital Editions opens and downloads the title. The title opens automatically after it is downloaded.

The download file is an .acsm file which triggers the eBook download in Adobe Digital Editions. More information about .acsm issues can be found here.

Step 7 - Transfer to Reading Device

Connect your eBook Reader to your computer.  Adobe Digital Editions detects the eBook device. The 'Device Setup Assistant' dialog box is displayed.

Click 'Authorize Device'.  Adobe Digital Editions activates the eBook Reader. You can now transfer Adobe eBooks to the device by 'drag and drop'.

Adobe Digital Editions and the eBook Reader must be activated with the same Adobe ID to transfer digital rights-protected Adobe eBooks to the device.
